  1. Eliza and Matilda are the two people I'm going to compare. Eliza had to take care of her family on pages169-192. Her brother had the yellow fever. Her brothers sons also got the yellow fever on pages179-180. She had to raise money while working with the sick. She had to deliver baskets of food to the sick and poor on chapter 24. Matilda had to face many challenges. The one I'll be describing is when Matilda lost her grandfather. Matilda's grandfather died because two angry robbers broke in to her coffeehouse. One ran of but the other beat her grandfather to death on chapter 19. Matilda stabbed the robber and he ran off. When he past he was loaded on a death cart and was took to go get buried. Matilda was left all alone until she found Eliza on chapter 21.

  2. Im going to compare Eliza and Lucille. They both lost someone important in their lives.Lucille was a strong woman. So was eliza. They were both hardworkers.lucille was on the verge of death twice. She survived both times but was still recovering when she came home.Eliza had to take care of her brothers kids while he recovered from yellow fever. She had to take care of people with yellow fever by giving them food and cleaning their wastes. These two women i think had the most difficult conflicts to go through.

Matilda has several different conflicts and involving herself, nature, and another character. The conflict Matilda had with herself was when she had to decide if she wanted to keep nell with her or put her in a home when yellow fever was active.(pg.189) A conflict she had with nature was when she had to fight being fever-free.(pgs.96-104) A conflict she had with a character was when she refused to go to stay with the Ludingtons when Matilda's mother told her to when she got sick.(pgs.70-77) The other character i choose was Eliza. Eliza has a conflict involving herself, another person and, society. The conflict she has with herself is when she has to decide if she wants the children being bleed when they had the fever.(pgs.204-205) The conflict she had with another person was when Matilda told her not to bleed the children because it would kill them.(pgs.204-205) The conflict Eliza had with society was when doctors said African Americans could not get the fever.(pgs.175-176) I choose Eliza and Matilda because i think they had the most conflicts.

Mattie faces the fact that she has yellow fever. (96-105) And she has to take care of her grandfather when he was sick.(169-172) She had to get him food and water by herself because he couldn’t go outside into the sun without getting burned up. Man vs. Nature. (120-135)
Eliza faces the problem of having to take care of herself and her family well living over by the water were the fever spread the most. (1-25) Later in the book she has the responsibility of caring for Mattie. She tries to get Mattie to her mother on a farm. (169-172) Man vs. Society

  9. The first person I choose to talk about is Matilda. Matilda faced quite a few obstacles, first off Matilda had to take over for her mother at the coffee shop when she became ill, she also helped to take care of her mother(63-70). Another conflict she faced was when she and her grandfather had been abdandoned by the Ludingtons when her grandfather was thought to have yellow fever, so Matilda had to take care of him(79-94).
The second person I choose is Eliza. When yellow fever spread Eliza had to help take care herself as well as her family because her brother had become ill and she had to take care of him and the twins. and on top of that she had to do her job to help people who had gotten the fever(169-200). Another conflict Eliza faced was when the twins had gotten the yellow fever, so she and Matilda worked hard to keep them from dying(201-208).

The second person I choose is eliza. eliza had to stay and take care of children instead of flee the city. that conflict is man Vs. self. the last one is when eliza had to find people in the town. that conflict is man vs.nature.

I am going to compare Mattie and the Ogilvies. The ogilvies and mattie both lose someone special in their life, Matatilda loses her Grandfather(pg.145 Bttm). That was a big deal to mattie her Grandfather was a good person, even though he made her do army training. Allong with mattie, the ogilvies lost someone as well. Their Daughter Collete died right in front of their eyes at the dinner table from yellow fever(pg.53 Bttm).

In the book "Fever 1793" many charactters faced many problems or conlict with people. All in all,the main characters that faced the most hardship was matilda and her grandfather.
Matlda was a young girl living with her mom and grandfather in philidelphia. As a young teenager her and her mother lucile often bumped heads on matildas decisions.Thusforth, causing matilda to dislike what her mother told her to do.Despite there clashes wth one another matilda always did what was told. For example, mother wanted to attend the ogolvies tea but matilda didn't but she went anyways to please her mother(Man vs. Man). Also, when her mother struct ill the doctor and everybody else wanted matilda to flee to the luddingtons farm with granpa (man vs.society).
Grandpa on the other hand also faced hardship. When grandpa found out lucile was struct with the yellow fever he knew he had to take care of matilda(man vs.nature). Also, granpa had struct ill when fleeing the city wich caused him to be weak and ill so he had to stay strong within himself for madie sake.(Man vs.self)

  17. Im comparing Polly and Collete. They were both victims of yellow fever. Which is considered man vs nature since mosquitos was the cause. Polly was a good friend and a good person to Matilda and others. She faced a problem that she couldn't handle. Collete is a young girl who was also a victim of yellow fever. She was a girl who people thought was an annoying prick. But they probably didn't know her that well. They both died in the blink of an eye.

  18. Mattie faced many conflicts throughout the book. One of the many was when she found Nell, and decided to take er in (page 163). This decision effected not only her, but Nell, and everyone who lived or knew Mattie. She had to decide what would be best for not only herself, but for the child who's parents had died from Yellow fever.

Another character who faced hardship was Grandfather. A conflict he faced was when robbers broke into the coffeshop (pages 138 through 149). Grandfather decided to fight the robbers, ultimately resulting in his death. He decided to fight, which led to the robbers fleeing the scene of his death.

  19. I pick Mattie and Eliza. I pick those two people because Mattie had to go threw robbers when her grandfather was there and she saw him died from the guy who robbed the place. She had to make sure he got food. To make sure he was out of the sun and to keep him cool. Eliza was difficult because she had to take care of a lot of people that had the fever. she had to make sure that the people get food and water. She had to be clean. She went around the street to take care of the sick people. by zachary lovine

  21. Eliza and Matilda had the most difficult tasks during the book. In chapter twenty two, Mattie found Eliza finally. Eliza had a big job going around town helping people who still were affected by the fever. She also stayed with her brother Joseph who had the fever and watched his sons William and Robert who also caught the fever. Mattie had the most difficult task. When Grandfather died she went out fending for herself. She ran into a little girl named Nell and had to watch over her. When she bumped into Eliza she satyed with them for awhile and they all left and moved into the coffeehouse where the three little ones caught the fever. Both mattie and eliza had to deal with difficult tasks.

  23. Mattie had many difficult tasks. One of her tasks was when she had to take care a little girl name Nell(page 163).Mattie had to bathe her, feed her, and make sure she was healthy. Mattie would go without food(page 179). And many more like her fears of her mother;the fever;Bush Hill;watching gradfather die;being scared, alone and hungry(page 169)

Another charactor with difficult tasks was Mother. She had to worry about her daughter getting the Feverr. Then she got the Fever(page 71). She had to be brave infront of her daughter when she got the fever. She went to go find her when she had the fever, almost die,and come back home.(page 236)

  24. One of the many conflicts Matilda had experienced was her crush on Nathaniel. Her mother and grandfather both wanted her to fall in love with an upperclassmen. Meaning someone who owned more wealth than her family. This conflict was a Man Vs. Man because Matilda was pressured under doing either what she wanted to do or doing what her family wanted for her. It can also be an Man Vs. Man because her parents' opinion was different from hers. On pages(40-43) her mother had even attempted to follow through with her wishes by accepting a tea with the Ogilvies.
Matilda's mother conflicted with Yellow Fever. This is more of an Man Vs Nature being that her sickness was caused by the mosquitoes in her surroundings. Matilda's mother did recover and heal from the disease.

  25. Matilda i think had the most conflicts.(93)Mattie had person conflict with her grandfather. He looked worse and she didnt want to leave him. (140-141)Matilda had a mental confict. She debated with herself to not cause any attention towards herself when the robbers were in the coffeehouse. Lucille has some major conflicts most of them are mental.(46-57)The worry of Mattie not having a husband,a wealthy husband.also threw out the book Licille also had person conflict. Between her and Mattie it was the fact she didnt say i love you to matie. Which was important to both of them. These characters had difficult tasks in this book 'Fever of 1793'

  27. Eliza had a task to work in the coffeehouse with Matilda and her family. After Yellow Fever broke out and mother became very ill in chapter nine.Eliza then tryed her best to take care of mother alone because grandfather and mattie were sent to the country, so they wouldn't get sick. After mother started feeling better she went off to the country to be be with Mattie and Grandfather. After mother left Eliza went back home to take care of her sick brother and his two sons Robert and William because there mother died from Yellow Fever.

Matilda also had many task when Grandfather and her were goin to the country Grandfather was was sick but he did not have yellow fever, because of his sickness they were not able to enter the country. They were lost somewhere unknown.Mattie took care of Grandfather by making sure he had lost of rest and making sure he had enough food and water until her is better.Mattie also had many task when her family's coffeeshop was open also alot of work around the house.

  33. Matilda,in the beginning of the book, was very responsible and mature for her age.Although she thought people treated her like a child,in my opinion she was much like an adult. The problem she faced was her mother getting Yellow Fever. She had to help with taking care of her.And along with that her mother,Lucille, decided to send her away to the country.Lucille,Matilda's mother, was struck ill with Yellow Fever. She had to make a very hard and complicated decision to send her daughter away to the country in order to keep Matilda healthy.

  38. A person different from Matilda that faced a conflict was Nell. Her conflict was when she lost her mother. She was alone for probably a long time. Then she later gets hold of the fever. She was close to dying but the next day the frost came so she was better. Another person was Eliza. She had to take care of her brother. He had the fever. Then, after he as better, his sons got hold of the fever. Then Eliza had to take care of her nephews. Eliza also had to go to work. Her job was to take care of the people who had the fever. As you can see, everyone had to take up conflict and had to find a conclusion.

  40. Matilda faced many difficult tasks in her life. She was a young teen who had to wake up every morning, go to the coffeehouse and do chores. Also she had a friend named Polly who died of yellow fever which was a hard task. But when her mother caught yellow fever that was the most difficult task she had to face.

The mother(Mrs.Cooks) faced a few difficult tasks also. She didn't want Matilda to go to Polly's house because she was worried about Matilda catching yellow fever. After time passed, Mrs.Cooks later then caught yellow fever. But she was very courageous and kept strong. She went to go find Matilda while suffering with yellow fever. The mother was very close to dieng but she stuck through and made it back.

  43. I have chosen two of the main conflicts from the story to point out. The first conflict I would like to point out is when Mattie is unsure of her mother’s whereabouts and her grandfather dies after returning to Philadelphia, she is left alone to fend for herself until she finds Eliza, the woman who works for Mattie’s mom at the family coffee shop they own. Another conflict that happens in the middle of the conflict I just mentioned is when Mattie becomes the last hope for a little girl named Nell who lost her mother to yellow fever sometime before Mattie shows up, Mattie is then Forced to care for Nell until Mattie finds some form of help which luckily turns out not to be all that long after finding Nell.

Mattie is described as a typical teenager with a strongly modern view on life. Although capable of hard work, she much prefers an easy life and looks for ways to avoid physical labor while enjoying the good things life has to offer. Mattie is content to let others, such as her mother or Polly Logan, perform the hard work; she would prefer to eat a breakfast sweetened with sugar while someone else scrubs the pots.

She had to raise money while working with the sick. The next character I choose was matilda. She had to leave her mother. the type of conflict was man vs.man. She also had to go into nature to find food for her and her grandfather. They both felt sad for matilda mother. They both had a difficult time in the book.

  61. I'm going to compare Matilda and her mom. They really love each other. But the problem is her mom is sick and has yellow fever and she doesn't want to lose her mom and her mother doesn't want to lose her. In the beginning of the book Matilda was acting like a jerk towards her mom. But in the middle and end she becomes more mature and takes responsibility for her actions.

  62. my favorite charictor in the book is the grandfather because he is one of the coolest charictor i think because the way he has respect for people as they have respect for him and because most grandfathers wouldnt argue with their daughter in order to let the child out so thats why i like the grandfather in this story
