  1. I know they both care for each other because when Matilda father died Matilda's grandfather was going to send her to a farm. Matilda's mother fought until her grandfather gave up and Matilda stayed home. Her mother tries to find her a wonderful husband. When Matilda's mother got the yellow fever really bad Matilda tried to comfort her the best she could. When she got the yellow fever Matilda's mother made her go out to the country where there was no fever. when the fever went away Matilda opened up the coffee house for her mom. She ran up to her mother when she came from the farm after 5 days. Matilda's mother states that when she couldn't find her daughter she went out for days looking and couldn't sleep. She even stole someones horse to find Matilda.

Throughout the book "Fever 1793"matilda and her mother never said they loved one another.Even though they never said it they expressed it in different ways. For example, matilda mother makes her go to the ogolvies for tea to get to know edward so mailda can have the best in life.(pg 46) Another example, of there unspoken word of love would be when matilda mother is struct with yellow fever and demands matilda to leave her be but matilda stays.(pg 69)Also, when matilda leaves her mother because the doctor didnt want her to catch yellow fever it was heartfelt to matilda. No matter what matilda was told to do around the coffee house she did it.when polly the servent gurl died mother let matilda stop and told her to finish the rest of her chores tommorow because it was getting late.Last but not least, mother did not rest until she could find mattie, which caused her to become sick again. All in all, they may not have said i love you through words but you can tell there was love between mother and daughter.

In the book "Fever 1793" Matilda and her mother Lucille did not really seem like they showed love to eachother though they did in their own ways. A few ways that Matilda's mother showed love to her daughter is by keeping her busy because she wants her to become a successful young women. When Lucille gets the fever she orders Matilda and Granfather to go live with the Ludingtons because she does not want her daughter to see her in that state and because she cares about her daughters health. She also shows that she cares by saying that she doesn't want her seeing Nathaniel because she saw how her family looked down on her and she didn't want the same to happen to her daughter.Another way lucille shows her love to Matilda is by looking for Matilda even when she was sick herself. The ways Matilda showed her mother that she loved her is by always having faith that she will come back. When matilda doesn't want to leave her mother shows that she loves her and cares. Matilda also shows that she loves her mother by taking care of her when she first gets the fever and by being by her side. Another way Matilda shows that she cares for her mother is by getting the coffeehouse running for her to take over when she gets back. At the end of the story both Matilda And Lucille express their love by showing how much they missed eachother when they got sick.

  5. You can really tell that Matilda loves her mother , because whenever she was told to do something she did but always didn't approve of her duties . A couple ways that Lucile showed she cared for her was by giving her jobs to do and other actions that she had to follow . The major part for me was when she (as in Lucile) got sick and forced Matilda and Grandfather to go in the country where the Ludingtons lived . Even when Lucile was still sick she showed that she loved and wanted to care for Matilda , because that's what mothers do for all of there children . Matilda also shows that she loves her mother by taking care of her when she first gets the fever and by being by her side. A second way for Matilda showing love and care for her mom is that she runs the coffee shop for a period of time until her mom returns or even get better for the fever . At the end of the story both characters showed there love by expressing there ways of how much they missed each other .

  10. Though Matilda and her mother never directly said "I love you" in the story, their actions said it instead. For example in the beginning of the book Matilda's cat Silas caught a mouse and jumped up onto her mothers best quilt. rather than letting Silas dine on top of the quilt Matilda shooed him off.
Another way you can tell they love each other is when Matilda's mother became ill with yellow fever and she told Matilda to stay away and leave so she wouldn't catch it as well.
Lastly, after Matilda's mother went missing Matilda was worried that she might have died. In the end when her mother came home Matilda was overjoyed and hugged her. Also Matilda's mother had stated of how she went looking for Matilda when she found out she wasn't with the Ludingtons, and how she couldn't sleep when she couldn't find Matilda. Thats how we know they loved eachother even when they didn't exactly say it.

  11. In the book Matilda and her mother bickered a lot.(pages 1 to 76). But when her mother got sick with yellow fever. (pages 76 to 89). she learns that if she hadn't spent the time bickering with her mother she would have learned to respect her.
Although matilda's mom did not say "I love you" in the story she expressed it in the best way she could.(pages 1 to 243). the way matilda talked sometimes would not make you think is she a caring girl.(pages 1 to 240). she is a girl who loves her mom.

  12. Jaquan Clarke In This Book Matilda And Her Mother Never Said They Loved Eachother.. But Their Actions Spoke For Them. Matilda Cared For Her Mother's Feeling Because In Chapter Six They Got Invited To Pernilla Ogilvie's Tea Party And Matild Did Not Want Too Go Because If They Did The Ogilvie Girls Would Of Mad Fun Of Their Dress. Another Reason Is... When Matilda And Her Mother Was At The Front Door Of The Ogilvie's Mansion Her Mother Looked At Matilda And Said You Might Be The Beuaty Of The Night I Want The Best Of You.

  13. In the book Fever 1793 we know Mattie and her mom really love each other. Throughout the book they don't say it but there is little things that let us know they do. One way we know this is on page 62 when a man dumps mother into the street because Mattie screams Mother! Mattie also didn't want to leave when they had to flee.(70-77 Another reason how I know Mattie and her mom love each other is because she tried day and night to find her mother throughout the book. She eventually found Eliza and asked if mother was alright.(178-191)All Mattie wanted to do after that was find her even more. Mattie figured that when winter came that mother would return. She was right towards the end of the book mother had returned. When that happened Mattie was very happy.

  14. We Know that mattie and her Mom love each other because when Mattie is asked to do something she doesnt fight with her and tell her shes not going to do it, like when she asked her to run an errand. Also when Matildas Mom is dumped in front of their house door Mattie reacts instantly and help her mom get better and assists her if she needed help.

  15. In the story you can tell Matilda loved and cared about her mom because if she didn't she wouldn't have been doing those chores that her mom ask her to do. Also Matilda showed she loved her mom by not trying to leave her when she was sick. She stuck by her moms side as long as she could.

  17. Matilda and her mother was very close but also never said they loved eachother. You can tell that Matilda loves her mother very much. When she was tossed on the street Matilda ran to her mother to see if she was ok (pg.62-63). When Matilda was forced to leave by her mother she hated that her mother would even do that. But her mother didn't want her getting sick and all Matilda wanted was to stay with her mother until she got better. She stamped her foot down and said to her grandpa that he couldn't send her away that she needed to be with her mom (pg.73). Mother was still worried once Matilda and grandfather left. He took her to a health center full of sick people when she wanted her away from all that (pg.105-112). All of these are examples are love between mother and Matilda throughout the story.

  18. Throughout the book, we can tell that Matilda and her mother love eachother (although it's never said out loud) because, on page 238, Mattie's mother is very concerned about how she was during the outbreak of yellow fever. She was nervous because she couldn't find her daughter, and she worried she'd become ill and possibly died. Only someone who loved their daughter would worry about her safety.

Mattie also worried for her mother's safety. On page 95, Mattie wonders where her mother is. Mattie's mother also doesn't want her to catch the Yellow Fever (page 69).

Throughout the book, even though it's never said, Mattie and her mother constantly worry about each other, worrying that they might catch the fever, and possibly die.

She went to the news paper and try to put a ad in for her missing mother. She told the guy that who ever comes in can you ask them if they saw my mother. 24. We can tell that Mother loves Mattie. We can tell because Mother didn't want mattie to go to polly's house. She doesn't want her to get the fever(page 16). Mother was worried about Mattie after she found out that Polly had died of the fever(page 15&16). Also Mother went out to go get her after she sent her to the country to get her again(page 236).

We can tell that Mattie loves her mother. We can tell because she took care of her when she had the fever(page 71). She had fears of her mother being hurt(page 169). Also, when mother came home she was very excited and thrilled(page 234). Mattie was worried about her when she was in Bush Hill, she wanted her to come there with her(page 103)

  26. Despite if Matilda and her mother do verbally tell each other they love each other, there are many different actions to prove they really do care and love for one another. For example, on page 69, Matilda's mother didn't want her trying to take care of her because she cared to much to let her get sick. When Matilda was sent away, multiple times she wondered about her mother showing that she cared. For example , on page 95 , right before Matilda fell ill and passed out, she thought of her mother and even hallucinated slightly when she said "I'll be up in a minute mother. Just let me sleep" . There are many other different examples of her thinking and worrying about her mother. When Matilda finally got back home, she was anxious to see her mother on page 122. She was haste to find her mother. Even though she didn't find her that day , She showed she cared by being so impatient to see her. Another small example of how much Matilda cares for her mother is when Silas , the cat , jumps on her mother's best quilt, on page 3 she commanded him to get down.
Even though it isn't verbally said , we can tell Matilda and her mother truly do care about each other. Actions speak louder than words and actions are all that matters.

  36. We knew that Matilda's mother ( Mrs. Cook ) loves her because at one moment in the book it said "Your mother went crazy when she found out that you and your grandfather didn't arrive at the Luddingtons' mansion." & Matilda was worried about if her mother had died or not, and she was scared of what was gonna happen to her.

  37. Throughout the book, Matilda and her mother never say that they love each other. However, I know they do. I have evidence. It all started in chapter 10 when Mattie mother came down with yellow fever. And Eliza,Lucille, and grandfather came to a decision on sending Mattie to the country. When Mattie found out she said "No!""I stamped my foot on the floor."She wanted to stay with her mother to take care of her. And it was either that or mother go with her. But instead grandfather went with.
Lucille never said she love Mattie, but in chapter 29, when Lucille came back from Ludington Mattie dash across the street without looking. And when she settled in Mrs. Ludington explained that Lucille joined Mrs.Ludington at her farm. And when she realized Mattie were lost, she went crazy. Lucille rose at midnight and took one of Mrs. Ludington horses to look for Mattie. They found her two days later, near death at the side of the road. It took weeks for her to recover.

  39. Matilda and her mother love each other deeply but does not tell it.I know this because according to page 6, Matilda's mother wants Matilda to be as responsible as she was. I know this because Matilda's mother gave her a lecture on how she was up and ready for the day. Mrs. Cook wants her daughter to be responsible. Another way know is when there was talk about fever , Matila's mother didn't want Matilda to go to the market, look for grandfather when he didn't show back with the tea, or look for Polly when she didn't show up to work(according to page 10). A last knowing I'm going to list is when Matilda's mother got sick, Matilda's mother didn't want her to be around her so, Matilda's mother sent her away with grandfather to the Ludingtons' farm. But she accually didn't make it there. And when she came home, Matilda couldn't find her mother. She was highly worried. This was on page 123.

A few examples are when Matilda's mother caught yellow fever, Matilda showed nothing but love and affection to her mother. With that being said, when Matilda's mother came home she was excited and very enthusiastic.
A few ways we can tell that her Mother loved her were, when her mother found out that Polly died of yellow fever she became worried about Matilda. Also her Mother had a fued with the grandfather about sending Matilda out to the country. And lastly the whole time they were sperated, they were worrying about eachother. There for you can tell that Matilda and her mother both loved one another.

  44. Although Mattie nor her mother say that they love each other directly in the story you can tell that they really do love each other quite alot. After catching yellow fever Mattie’s mom won’t even allow Mattie to stand in the same room as her for fear of catching the fever, eventually her mother sees fit for Mattie to be sent to a family owned farm in the country with her grandfather. I believe that her mother did this out of obvious love for her daughter. Mattie also shows she loves her mom when after catching yellow fever herself on the way to the country, Mattie is taken by her grandfather to a makeshift hospital to wait for her get over the yellow fever or die. When she pulls through after several weeks and is able to travel she goes with her grandfather back into the city against her mother’s best wishes just to make sure her mother was still alive, only to find the house as well as most of Philadelphia deserted. These are the reasons I beleave that Mattie and her mother really do love each other very much.

You can tell that matilda loves her mom.She showed it by trying to see her mom when her mother didnt want her to because she thought it was contagious. She showed it by going over to the Ogilvie's mansion to get to know edward.Mother wondered when she would'nt sleep until she found matilda.Matilda showed it by wondering if her mom was okay. Then when the mother came out of the carriage she gave matilda a big hug.Matilda said in the book she was happy to see her mother again. She was so happy to see her mother again that she cradled up aginst her and the mother leaned on her.Mother said she was worried. She said she searched for matilda until she was sick again.

  52. It is so that they do not say they love each other. When Matilda's mother had been diagnosed with yellow fever. Matilda started to really show her feelings and expressions. Matilda had began to worry about her mother's health and life. Matilda did cry for her mother.
The mother did not want to let Matilda go off and away, so that was her way of showing love.

  55. We can tell Mattie and her mother love on another deeply. only because when mother became ill(pg 238) should was very worried. Not to only her well being, but to her daughter as well. She did not want Mattie to catch her fever. later on, Not only Mattie worries for her mother, but the mother also worries. they think of one another through the entire book.

  59. In the book Fever 1793 Matilda and her mother Lucille did not really act like they love each other through out the book. They did love each other in there own way. A few ways that Matilda's mother show love to her daughter is by keeping her busy because she wants her to become a successful girl. When Lucille gets the fever she tells Matilda and her Granfather to go live with the Ludingtons because she doesn't want her to see her in that area because she cares about her Matilda. Matilda really didn't want to leave her mother but she had to and Matilda thought about her mother every day. They also love one another by helping each other Matilda help mother in the coffee house everyday and morning.Matilda had never told her mother no, She got up and did the job she was ask to do. Matilda had to help out even more because mother got sick so that shows hart and love.Mother also said that she was worried about Matilda when she was in Bush Hills with grandfather.Matilda also ran to her mother after five days when she was on the farm.Matilda wanted to be with her mother everyday but she couldn't and that really heart Matilda that is love also.Matilda an mother loved each other a lot you don't always have to tell a person that you love them.

Another way know is when there was talk about yellow fever Matila mom didn't want Matilda to go to the market to look for grandfather when he didn't show back with the tea or look for Polly when she didn't show up to work.
